SPECIFICATION: ADDED RANKS chess set
The Preamble
I, Richard Irl Mansfield have invented a new design for an ADDED RANKS chess set as set forth in the following
specification. In brief: This design is for a chess board with 4 added ranks. The standard chess board has eight
ranks. The ADDED RANKS chess board has 12 ranks.
Along with these added ranks, appropriate pieces must be added to the chess set, creating a game which is
markedly different yet strictly traditional. The standard chess set includes 8 pawns and 2 knights on each side.
The Added Ranks board requires 20 pawns and 6 knights on each side. For set-up, the added knights are
placed in the third and fourth ranks; all four may be placed extreme right or extreme left, or two may be placed
both right and left.
Claim
I, Richard Irl Mansfield, have invented an ornamental design for a chess board as shown (see Figure 1, a top
plan view thereof) which is a standard chess board with 4 added ranks.
Oath of applicant.
I, Richard Irl Mansfield, hereby state that I believe myself to be the original and first inventor of the Added Ranks
chess set, for which I solicit a patent; and state that I am a citizen of the United States of America.

I, Richard I. Mansfield, declare, under penalty of fine or imprisonment, or both, that I am the sole inventor of the
Added Ranks chess set, that I am a citizen of the United States of America, and that I have reviewed and
understand the contents of the specification and the claims which the declaration refers to, and acknowledge the
duty to disclose information that is material to patentability as defined by 37 CFR § 1.56. (I am also enclosing a
